Peter Max | American artist born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on October 19, 1937.  He is a pop culture icon and one of the most famous Pop Art artist of all times. Peter Max's artistic journey began in his early teens, inspired by the works of Abstract Expressionists like Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. His early work reflect this influence, with bold, gestural brushstrokes and a focus on color and texture.

In the 1960s, Max's style evolved into a more Pop Art-oriented approach, incorporating vibrant colors, bold outlines, and recognizable symbols from popular culture. Peter Max's work gained widespread recognition during this period, as he collaborated with renowned figures like The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. His designs graced album covers, posters, and other merchandise, becoming visual emblems of the era's cultural revolution. His  iconic "Cosmic" series as well as his "Love" logo, created for the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, catapulted him into international fame.

Peter Max's use of psychedelic shapes and bursts of color during this period became synonymous with the Psychedelic Art movement. His images characterized by colorful hearts, swirling stars, planets, and celestial bodies often containing much or all of the visible color spectrum perfectly captured the spirit of the era and became an enduring symbol of peace, love, and unity.  

Throughout his career, Max has continued to explore and expand his artistic horizons, experimenting with various techniques and mediums, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art. His work remains deeply rooted in Pop Art's celebration of popular culture and its ability to communicate universal themes.

Peter Max's uplifting images of American icons and symbols have touched almost every aspect of American culture and awarded Max the title of official portrait artist for the Statue of Liberty. His artistic contributions have been widely recognized, with numerous awards and honors, including the Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Max's artistic legacy extends beyond his visual creations. He has been a vocal advocate for peace and social justice, using his platform to promote causes such as environmental protection and cultural understanding. His artworks being held in prestigious collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum of Modern Art.
